There is no doubt that the UK leads the world in respect of the new bingo boom. Just a few years ago, bingo had an aged image, as it was played mostly by those over 50 in smoky bingo halls throughout the UK. With the introduction of the UK smoking ban which prohibited smoking in public place bingo was hit hard and for the first time bingo attendances start to fall. The onset of online bingo endorsed by well known celebrities gave bingo a brand new image which appealed more to younger generations. During the last few years the new breed of younger bingo players that have been playing online have also ventured in UK bingo halls breathing new life in them.
Bars in Auckland New Zealand seem to have taken notice of what has been happening in the UK and have jumped on the bingo boom. Auckland Bars are now crammed with a new breed of younger bingo players.
Parore, a 30 year old mother of two, says she loves playing bingo. “I’d never played bingo before and had no idea how to play. I wasn’t convinced when a friend asked me to go.
“It was way more fun than I thought it was going to be. It’s great, especially with a big group of friends.”
Don’t expect the same old bingo calling names, such as two fat ladies for the number eighty eight, as these have been adapted to far raunchier calls, which perhaps we better not detail in this article.
Watch out for the new style of bingo coming to a bar near you in the very near future!
