A number of online bingo companies have been pulled up for misleading advertising campaigns or promotions and Sing Bingo are the latest to fall foul of the Advertising Standards Agency. This further indicates the level of promotion that online bingo companies have to undertake to stand out from the crowd and gain new members.

Competition in an industry is usually a good thing but if it is forcing online bingo firms to make outlandish claims and promises in their advertising campaigns, maybe a saturation point is coming soon.

The promise of being debt free sounded good

The problems for Sign Bingo arose when they ran a promotional campaign stating that players could be debt free in 2011. This was based around the fact that the lucky winner would have their bills paid for them throughout the year.

Of course, the company would only pay £200 per month, totalling £2,400 for the entire year so if a person’s bills exceeded that level, they would still have bills to pay.

The ASA were quick to act

This stood against the premise of the promotional campaign and numerous complaints were made to the ASA. These complaints have been upheld and the company has been forced to withdraw all of its marketing campaigns for this promotion. The company has also been given a warning regarding their future conduct with respect to promotional campaigns.

A prize of £200 a month towards your monthly bills is still a  great prize but it wasn’t what Sing Bingo promises, further reminding online bingo firms that they must tell the truth when it comes to promotional activities.
